ElevenPaths discovers the betrayal of gateways leading to the Tor network
Did you know that browsing through Tor is not enough to guarantee anonymity? At ElevenPaths we found out that some gateways linked to the contents of the TOR network may disclose your identity.
The Onion Router, known as Tor, is a tool that gives access to the unindexed content through common browsers.
The use of any kind of gateway entails risks arising from the lack of reliability of the service provider. In the case of the access gateways to the hidden services of the Tor network, any expectation of privacy among the users with regard to the anonymity of these operations must be placed in quarantine, in view of the fact that some of these platforms display information which explicitly leaks the real IP address of the user who submits the query, as in the case of onion.link. In other cases, the browser used is displayed, a factor which could also be used to obtain the real IP address when loading resources hosted on servers controlled by the attacker.
Our analyst team recommends to take precautions when using TOR access gateways.
